Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative & Medicaid Matters! Maryland File Legal Briefs in Support of the Fair Share Health Care Fund Act

Thursday, April 20, 2006

(Baltimore, MD) – Last night, the Maryland Citizens' Health Initiative Education Fund, Inc. and Medicaid Matters! Maryland filed amicus briefs in the case of RILA v. Fielder.  They support the brief filed last Friday by the Attorney General's Office on behalf of Maryland Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, James D. Fielder, Jr.. The Appellate Advocacy Project of the Public Justice Center, and attorneys Chris Brown and Michael Pretl, filed the brief for the Initiative and attorney Nevett Steele of Civil Justice, Inc., filed the brief for Medicaid Matters! Maryland.

We urge the Federal District Court to uphold this very important health care financing measure which helps to expand Medicaid coverage for the uninsured in Maryland.
