How we developed the Plan

 A Public-Private Partnership for
Health Care for All Marylanders

To achieve our health care reform goals, the Initiative actively sought the assistance of policy experts from around the country and from state experts at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, University of Maryland Law School, and Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Based on the input from

  • 24 public town meetings held around the state,

  • four years of meetings with state and local organizations, doctors, nurses, social workers, hospitals, safety net providers, government officials, and advocates for the disabled, mental health, children, the homeless, and

  • three years of debate with experts,

we released the most feasible, detailed and economically sound health reform plan ever proposed in Maryland.  This plan has served as the blueprint for both our education and advocacy efforts ever since.

In October 2003, we released another revision based on the comments and feedback of hundreds of groups across the state.

We keep abreast of changes in the health care and political systems and respond accordingly to ensure continued progress toward our ultimate goal of health care for all!
