Faces of Maryland's Uninsured Project

 faces2_311 Who are the uninsured?

Often times, the uninsured are made out to be poor, lazy, unemployed, homeless, and irresponsible.

The opposite is true.

About ninety percent of the 800,000 uninsured people in Maryland either work or live in the household of a worker.  Usually they are not offered coverage at work or it's too expensive for them to buy it.

The Faces of Maryland's Uninsured Project is part of our ongoing efforts to educate the public and our policy makers about THE TRUTH when it comes to the uninsured.

Sarah Thom Penna (a former Health Care for All! Social Work Resident and Open Society Institute-Baltimore Community Fellow) interviewed over 300 uninsured people across the state.  She listened to their stories, wrote about their lives, and filmed their personal struggles.

With the help of masterful artists (Filmmaker Paul Santomenna, The Megaphone Project, Photographer Marshall Clarke of Marshall Clarke Studios, and Graphic Designer Emily Wilson of Palolodeep Design), Sarah put together a book and film (12 min) that are both moving and educational.

Click here to view the film on our website!

Would your group like to screen the film?  Would you like to hold a coffee to chat about how uninsurance is effecting your ability to get health care?

Email us NOW and schedule one of our outreach specialists to come to your next group meeting.   Give us some time on your next meeting agenda!   Click here to schedule a screening.

Click here to order your own copy of the book and film for $20 (proceeds will go towards our grassroots lobbying and are therefore not tax-deductible).
